Beacon of Light

Without a sense of universal responsibility there can be only unequal development in the world. The more people come to realise that we do not live on this planet of ours in isolation-that ultimately we are all brothers and sisters- the more likely is progress for all humankind, rather than for just parts of it.
Dalai Lama

Given that our media today is strangely negative, we hardly learn of some truly exceptional human beings and their altruistic initiatives.
Unfortunately the depraved of our society get more than their 30 seconds of fame whilst the kind hearted rarely make to the front page.
We at Yoddhas love to acknowledge these organisations and fully extend our moral support to them.

Mumbai Mobile Crèche
Founded in ___ by Meera Mahadevan, MMC is a beautiful effort to try and give the children of construction site workers their rightful childhood. It works on Multiple Levels to enrich the children's lives in every conceivable aspect. MMC has a three tier approach:
For children from 0-3 years, MMC runs a crèche run by women trained comprehensively in infant child care.
Children between the ages of 3-5 are part of the balwadi system. Here the focus is on pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
Once the child has attained 6 years of age, MMC enrols them in the local municipality school and efforts are made to help these children stay and excel in school.
Apart from education MMC also ensures the children receive adequate nutrition by providing three meals a day, everyday. The meals are well balanced and include fruits, eggs, milk etc.

St. Jude India
Founded in 2006, St. Jude aims at provided children diagnosed with cancer a secure, clean environment where they can recover effectively. A lot of families move to metros like Mumbai and Delhi, where better quality and cost effective cancer treatment options are available. During the protracted battle with cancer, these families cannot be admitted in the hospital. They end up living in squalid conditions, and compromising on healthy food.
St. Jude provides a caring and nurturing residence for these families. Great care is taken to ensure high levels of hygiene within the premises. Holistic and healthy meals are provided to help the child receive the needed strength to fight this formidable disease. Moreover the family is given the emotional support necessary to deal with the turbulent times. St. Jude also helps the children with transportation between the centres and hospital.
Today St. Jude has around 17 centres in five cities. They have impacted the lives of over 5000 children.
