                                                           A ‘FAIR’ Trick
Shine bright like a diamond? Oh! Who am I kidding? Long gone are those pampered, bloomy skin days, when just a bright smile would accessorize your face. So wondering why is your skin in such a hurry to age faster than you? Well, blame the fancy cosmetics which you have bought from all the leading brands possible.
HOW!! How did they trick each one of us to buy their products without a second thought?

  1. Who wouldn’t want to look like the celebrity advertising for the product?
  2. FIT IN, yes totally.
  3. SALES!! 10% OFF,20%OFF. We just love to buy anything on this planet the moment we see the word DISCOUNT. When an expensive brands are available at affordable prices, how can we say NO to the “Now or never” offer?
  4. FAITH. A Fairness cream by a well valued brand (although if it was famous only for automobiles, just saying) is considered as a magic potion which after using thrice a day will transform you into  snow white.

Oh wait! Hold on. Who am I to judge you anyway? Have you considered how this magic potion will help you become fair? How dazzling toothpaste will help your teeth become white instantly? How a hair gel sets your hair perfectly?
Some of the fairness creams have indeed shown results by lessening the melanin cells which is responsible for darkness. But the excessive use of these creams have proven to be harmful. Out of the 73 fairness creams tested, CSE found the presence of mercury in over 40 per cent. The use of mercury in cosmetics is prohibited by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act as it causes skin and kidney ailments. Coal tar colours, phenylenediamine, benzene and even formaldehyde are some of the commonly found toxins in shampoos, skin creams are coal tar colours, benzene, phenylenediamine and formaldehyde. These ingredients causes cancer and other fatal illness. The hair gel which we are using on the daily basis dehydrates our hair and also leads to hair fall.

So why isn’t it banned yet? Because the method and duration of consumption matters a lot.  Very little information about what and how much of these ingredients are absorbed into the body is given so they might not provide the same results when tested. Also due to the loopholes in the government many banned products still run in the market.

Now you are getting right to the point am trying to make here “excessive use of cosmetics, is fatal”. Yet we continue experimenting on ourselves because of the importance each one of us give on physical appearance. Yes, you read it right, physical appearance also matters but the definition differs for each one of us. Welcome to the greatest misconceptions of the human population, ‘a fairer skin is a healthier skin.’, ‘a size-zero body is a healthy body’, ‘straight hair is the gorgeous hair’.

All it took for an MNC is to put an arrow right into your weakness, make you feel inferior and desperate to trade anything that takes to reach the ‘now-they-look-good’ standards. Ouch! That hurts.  Now that is what I call as a ‘FAIR trick’.

It is time we re-define our thinking and not set standards for ‘beauty’. Getting carried away with misconceptions will not only make you a ‘pawn in the game’ but it is also going to affect your body in some way. So all you beautiful people out there choose what you use wisely and do not let the arrows of misconception hurt you.
